Imagine an 8-year-old girl in rural Pakistan shivering in the chill fall air. She stands near a fire outside her family’s shack, seeking warmth from the small, almost insignificant flames. Her brother and sister stand nearby, as they all wonder how they’ll survive the cold months ahead.

In the morning, I detest everything but black coffee. No cream or sugar, please.
