Nigeria (MNN) ? A bomb blast and gunfire shook an area around a seminary in northern Nigeria on Sunday, leaving two dead.

If you're anything like me, then you love celebrating milestones. In fact, one of the biggest milestones we all have is our birthday. Next week is my birthday and as I have been considering the work of The Voice of the Martyrs, which I have been blessed to do this blog for almost eight years, I am amazed that they have been around for 45 years! That's amazing to me because next week I will be 44 and so it is very inspiring to know that the Lord has blessed this ministry for so long.

Nikolai Khamara was arrested for robbery and imprisoned for ten years. Khamara watched the Christians and wondered what kind of beings they were. They were men, but they would show joy despite their suffering and would sing in very dark hours. When they had a piece of bread, they shared it with someone who had none. Their faces would shine as they spoke to someone whom Khamara could not see.

On Friday afternoon, Sept. 21, a mob of several thousand Muslims attacked St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mardan City, Pakistan. The attackers, armed with rifles and kerosene, overwhelmed security guards and broke into the church. They destroyed Bibles and prayer books, desecrated the altar and set fire to the church building and several surrounding homes and buildings. The mob was returning from a protest against the film Innocence of Muslims, which has sparked violence in many Middle Eastern countries this month and led to the death of Christopher Stevens, U.S. Ambassador to Libya. In Pakistan, the government had declared Sept. 21 a national holiday in honor of Muhammad, and the day had been set aside for peaceful protests.
