On Friday afternoon, Sept. 21, a mob of several thousand Muslims attacked St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mardan City, Pakistan. The attackers, armed with rifles and kerosene, overwhelmed security guards and broke into the church. They destroyed Bibles and prayer books, desecrated the altar and set fire to the church building and several surrounding homes and buildings. The mob was returning from a protest against the film Innocence of Muslims, which has sparked violence in many Middle Eastern countries this month and led to the death of Christopher Stevens, U.S. Ambassador to Libya. In Pakistan, the government had declared Sept. 21 a national holiday in honor of Muhammad, and the day had been set aside for peaceful protests.

A few days ago I was discussing with my husband the importance of intellectual property and specifically quotes. One of the reasons we all enjoy quotes is because generally they highlight the author of the quote and their thinking.

“I enquired about the possession of the Christian spirit, and the reply came … that it was the Holy Spirit. Well, at any cost I didn’t want to be robbed of this new life and hence started learning Christianity.”

A few days ago the world witnessed a modern day miracle when Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, a man who was sentenced to death, walked out of his prison cell and into the arms of his wife and children. I still feel overwhelming joy as I type this.

With all the recent uprising in the Middle East over a recent film that discusses Islam, I thought it might be a good time to share with you about a great book that we have in our bookstore. India (MNN) ? As if being terrorized by Hindu extremists and watching their homes burn to the ground wasn't enough, believers are still waiting for justice and compensation after four years. Voice of the Martyrs Canada says 10,000 believers are still homeless after radicals destroyed over 5,000 homes and hundreds of church buildings throughout late 2008 and early 2009.
