Statues of Jesus Vandalized, Beheaded

I was going to write about this yesterday but I decided to save it for today because I wanted to raise the question - does this fall into the category of Christian persecution?  What do you think?

Do you think if this was a statue of Buddha or Muhammad do you think someone would've intentionally destroyed and beheaded these statues, or is it because it was Jesus? Or is this just senseless vandalism? Weigh in, comments are open.
