Some Religions Are Dangerous Practice in China
OTTUMWA - A surprise is lurking behind metal doors, and in an instant it will change your reality into a memory of the past. You have sinned against the government, and for that you may not be forgiven.
A 32-year-old Chinese man experienced this scenario first-hand when he was kidnapped by four men in an unidentifiable white van as he waited for the bus. According to Phil Griffith, pastor of the Faith Baptist Church in Ottumwa, the man had just finished a Bible study when he was abducted by the Chinese government. His crime - sinning against the government. The man, who's name was not available, is still in prison.
Griffith, who recently returned from China, was initially sent to set up a program enabling Chinese students to learn English, a program he heard about though a group his church supports called OTAN - Outreach to Asian Nationals.
While Griffith knew the trip would involve education, he was completely unaware of how it would affect him personally.
"We knew we were going to meet with certain Christians," he said. "We didn't know we were going to meet with the House Church leaders."
His 17-day trip created memories to last a lifetime.
