Prominent Beijing Christian Lawyer Kidnapped and Tortured
by VOM Staff
On September 29, 2007, prominent Christian lawyer, Li Heping, was kidnapped and tortured by Beijing State Security Bureau officials for nearly six hours.
According to China Aid Association (CAA), “When Li Heping got off work and came out of the office building; he saw two sedans without license plates in the parking lot. A group of unidentified people covered his head with a cloth bag and forced him into one of the sedans.”
CAA reports Heping was driven to an undisclosed location where he was tortured. “They demanded Heping undress completely, which he refused. They began to beat him brutally. After they hit him to the floor, they undressed him by force to his underwear. They grabbed him by the hair, kicked him, hit him with water bottles and slapped him in the face. The most vicious form of torture was chasing him and hitting him with electric batons.” CAA added.
The attackers identified themselves to Heping as Beijing State Security Bureau officials.
Pray for Heping and Christians in China who face increased persecution as the Beijing 2008 Olympics approach. Ask God to soften the hearts of government officials and for the Holy Spirit to use the testimony of believers like Heping, to draw non-believers into fellowship with Christ.
