Prayer Focus: Burma

Burmese government killing Christians

The situation in Burma is simply awful. The UN and other rights groups have accused the military junta of atrocities including forced labor and extra-judicial killings. Many of those killings have been tribal Christians, says Strategic World Impact's Kevin Turner. He says it's not just persecution, but they're actually killing, slaughtering whole villages. Burma heads the United States' 2005 list of Countries of Particular Concern released last week by the State Department. Turner says the government has impacted their work in Burma. SWI has brought Bibles, food and supplies across the border. They helped build a church and a school. Within one month the Burmese military had come in and not only burned their church to the ground, but they also destroyed the entire village. However, that hasn't stopped SWI's resolve to serve the internally displaced through short-term teams. They've trained Christian medics who can minister to their physical and spiritual well being.

Pray for these Burmese believers who face life-threatening situations daily.
