Persecuted for Righteousness Sake

One of the most famous sayings in the Holy Bible is found in Matthew 5:10, "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Did you notice that the key in this passage is "for the sake of righteousness?"  I think sometimes modern day Christians forget that when we are being persecuted for doing something wrong, or ungodly that we are often guilty of bringing persecution upon ourselves.  In fact, hypocrisy is one of the issues that is tied into that type of persecution.

Biblical persecution on the other hand, is that type of persecution where one is being persecuted for doing what is right in the eyes of God.  This is a thrilling truth because if God is on our side then who can be against us!  And even though it may look like a horrible situation to the world, the good news is that we are truly blessed.
