PAKISTAN: Church Compound Destroyed

For all of you who pray specifically using our Be-A-Voice-Network network prayer bulletins, a few days ago we sent out a bulletin asking for prayer for Pakistan and in case you missed that alert, I wanted to remind you about it.

If you click here you can download the PDF.

On Sept. 21, a mob of hundreds of Muslim men attacked and burned the 82-year-old St. Paul's Lutheran Church and an adjoining school in Mardan after a protest against an anti-Islam film.

According to reports from Christians in Mardan, the mob brought kerosene and guns. They beat church staff, desecrated the altar and destroyed hundreds of Bibles, Christian literature and DVDs before setting fire to the church, St. Paul's high school, a library, a computer laboratory and the houses of four clergymen. The mob also damaged and torched a car and three motorcycles.

The attack on St. Paul's came less than a week after thousands of Muslim protestors burned crosses and threw stones at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cathedral in Hyderabad on Sept. 16. Christians are concerned that rioters will continue to target churches in retaliation over the film.
