Numerous Christians were killed and over 500 displaced, including children, during violence against believers in Bauchi state, Nigeria, according to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts.
Following Christians’ disapproval of Muslims using their church grounds for their Friday prayers, Muslims set fire to their own mosque on Feb. 21 and blamed Christians. Muslims attacked Christians with guns, double-edged daggers and sticks, and burned their homes.
“I was returning to work when Muslims chased me and stabbed me with double-edged curved knives on my stomach and the back of my head. I thought I was dead and fell in a ditch,” John Wada said. “When they tried to pour petrol [gasoline] on me and burn me, the police arrived and picked me up and brought me to the hospital. That is what saved me.”
