National Conference: Colombia
A Colombian sister is here to share the ministry of brave saints in her country. Her pictures are difficult to see; the body of a man killed for allowing a house church to meet in his house; a bicycle blown apart when a Christian was riding it. It is hard to fathom the level of violence in this country, a country in the same hemisphere as the United States. In 2005 a bomb was placed in front of the church that her husband pastors. Part of the church, and a part of their home, was destroyed. But though they were covered with glass and debris by the explosion, the Lord protected them.
"As a mother, I had to decide whether to send my children to school or not." Guerillas placed bombs in front of the school to sow terror into the hearts of parents.
So many pastors have been killed. Many times, though, the Pastor's widow continues on in the ministry, putting her own life at risk to carry on the work of the gospel. VOM helps provide vocational training and humanitarian aid to widows and orphans in Colombia. One group we support has purchased a farm to grow food, and also has begun raising fish to provide food.
VOM also provides Christian literature to help strengthen and build the church. Last month 1500 radios were delivered, destined to go to FARC guerillas. The radios are pre-set on the frequency of a gospel station.
"There is a lot of danger. We have been threatened many, many times. But we have the desire to continue working…God will help me."
"Remember that in Colombia there is a church that cries, but won't give up. There is a church that wants to grow, day by day, and it is growing."
Pray for the church in Colombia.
