Letting Go
When I think of the persecuted Christians around the world, the first thing I wonder is how do they do it? How do they stand up for their faith in the face of death? How do they sacrifice everything, their family, home, reputation and all possessions, to follow Christ’s will? How do they continue to hold on to hope in the midst of captivity?
As I begin to ask God how this is possible, He answers me with one thought. They don’t do it alone.
The sacrifice of these Christians is done because they depend on God and all they have belongs to God. When they give their life to Christ, they find their identity in Him. This allows them to let go of all control of their life, family and health. Somehow within relinquishing all of the things that we see as important, they find peace because God is holding their life in His hands.
Let this be a lesson to us as Christians as to what the art of letting go can do for our relationship with Christ. When we give our lives over to God, He makes us greater than we could ever be on our own. He gives us the strength to overcome obstacles and do things that we would never dream of doing. Only with God can we become a mirror of Him and see past our own limitations as humans.
