Kidnapped Iraqi Clergyman Released
Father Samy Al Raiys, the kidnapped rector of the major seminary of the Chaldean Patriarchate, was released after being held for six days. According to the official Web site of the Patriarchate, the priest, who was abducted outside his home at the Church of St. George on the morning of December 4, is in good health.
Prior to Father Al Raiys’ kidnapping, the seminary’s fall semester opening was delayed because of lack of security. According to Asia News, the school’s seminary and college had recently relocated to New Baghdad in the east of the capital to avoid the daily violence in the suburb of Dora.
Violence and threats of kidnapping are becoming a daily occurrence for Christians in Iraq. Pray they will remain steadfast in their faith despite the threats and violence against them.
