Imprisoned Christian Dies, More Believers Arrested

On Nov. 5, The Voice of the Martyrs Canada reported 36-year-old Teklesenbet Gebreab Kiflom, a member of the Full Gospel Church died recently of malaria. Teklesenbet was detained for nearly a year at the Wi’a Military Confinement Centre in Eritrea.

He reportedly suffered harsh military punishment and was denied medical attention. Meanwhile, reports indicate Eritrean authorities have recently arrested 65 believers belonging to house churches. Officials made the arrests in five different locations, working from a list of names that sources believe were provided by informants around the country.

According to media reports in August 2007, more than 2,000 Eritrean citizens are imprisoned and subjected to torture and forced labor because of their religious beliefs; 95 percent of these known religious prisoners are Christians.

The Voice of the Martyrs actively supports persecuted believers in Eritrea and advocates for the release of imprisoned believers. Pray for those mourning the loss of Teklesenbet. Pray for the release of imprisoned Christians. Ask God to work in the hearts of Eritrea's leaders.
