Hundreds of Christians Demonstrate on Cairo's Edge

The following news item is from The Washington Examiner, and I find it interesting because apparently there was a Christian shot and also a suicide bombing of a Christian church that happened on New Year's Day in the port city of Alexandria in Egypt.

The article mentions that there was no way of knowing, at this time, if the shooter knew his target was a Christian.  It's suggested that the shooter may have known this because there were women who were apparently not wearing headscarves as Muslim women do.

The article also paints the Christian demostrators as pelting police with stones.  Personally, I'm not convinced that happened, as it is extremely rare for persecuted Christians to react in that manner. I'm also skeptical because apparently the person giving this information was anonymous.

Here's the section from the article:

The protesters pelted police with stones and blocked the Autostrad highway running along the edge of Manshiyet Nasr, a slum of 1.2 million near the city's medieval cemeteries, that includes a population of Christians specialized in gathering and recycling the city's garbage.

Three officers and five riot police were wounded and several of their vehicles were damaged, the security official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
