Christian Persecution in Afghanistan

I read this very interesting article over at CBN written by Chuck Holton who is a CBN correspondent to Afghanistan.  He writes concerning Afghanistan, basically saying that there is no Christian persecution in Afghanistan because there are barely any Christians in Afghanistan.  Holton writes:

There is no doubt that anyone who doesn't hold the exact worldview of the Taliban is vulnerable to brutality at their hands.  The Taliban kills wantonly - no matter what religion is held by their victims.  But Christians specifically?  I don't think that is much of an issue here, simply because they don't exist.

In Iraq, Christians make up about 2% of the population.  A tiny minority, to be sure, but it is possible to find Christian churches in some places there.  But as far as I can ascertain, there isn't one single organized Christian church in Afghanistan.

Holton goes on to say that he realizes that he and some of the soldiers in Afghanistan could be the only Christians that Afghani's will ever meet, and he calls for bold believers to come to that nation.

According to the Voice of the Martyrs Restricted Nations page on Afghanistan, Afghanistan is a restricted nation with only .02% of the population being Christian.  Here's more from the restricted nations page...

Anyone who acknowledges faith in Christ experiences intense persecution, including death. Persecution normally comes from family members and neighbors, while police and government officials turn a blind eye.

In 2008, two Taliban gunmen shot and killed a British Christian aid worker in the country's capital city of Kabul accusing her of "spreading Christian propaganda," according to news reports. It was a brazen attack following warnings from the members of the Afghanistan Islamic Council to President Hamid Karzai not to allow foreign missions into the country, especially to the impoverished area. The attack followed threats by the council to exact severe consequences if the government did not stop Christians from preaching and evangelizing.

Please keep our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan in your prayers.
