Two Ways to Share Christmas with Christians in India

When Pastor Peter Paul was attacked by an angry mob after sharing New Testaments with Muslim young people in the slum where he worked, the police were called. But instead of dispersing the mob, the police arrested Peter Paul. They said he was guilty of "disturbing communal harmony" by telling Muslim children about Jesus!

Peter Paul was marched off to jail, leaving behind his wife and two small children. But they weren't safe either. Angry Muslims threatened their landlord, and he told them they could no longer live in their rented house.

Christians in India face persecution in the form of fines, arrests and beatings. Yet they go through these trials willingly to bring honor to Christ. They understand the desire of the wise men in the Christmas story to bring offerings to the King of kings. They offer their homes, their families and even their lives in a nation hostile to the Savior.

You can join in fellowship with Indian Christian families this Christmas time by providing a Christmas Care gift pack for their children.

For a gift of $25, you can bless an Indian child who lives in an area where Christians are persecuted. Each Christmas Care Pack includes practical items, such as clothing and sandals, as well as books and Bible stories in Indian languages to encourage children in their faith. Imagine the excitement on these children's faces when they see gifts provided for them by Christian brothers and sisters in the United States!

Shortly after Pastor John Kennedy arrived home from his church's New Year's Eve service last January 1, his neighbors ran and told him the church was on fire. Hindu extremists had raided the church and burned everything in it. The extremists opposed Pastor Kennedy and his church simply because they continued to hold Christian celebrations in a village they had declared was for Hindus only. The radicals told him, "If you continue having church, we'll burn you and your family in that same house." Pastor Kennedy replied, "I will not stop my ministry. Do whatever you want; I'll just pray."

You can help evangelists like Pastor Kennedy by sponsoring a Village Outreach Pack. Your gift of $75 will provide a small library of gospel materials to a church leader or evangelist. These Village Outreach Packs will go specifically to pastors and evangelists from minority groups outside of large cities. VOM will distribute 3,000 packs, which will help Christian leaders learn to preach sermons, teach others and study the Bible more effectively.
