Two Great Ways to Help Families of Prisoners

Screen shot 2010-06-02 at 11.10.40 AM  If you've been wondering how you can minister to the persecuted church, today I have great news for you, because we have two wonderful ways you can help out specifically families of prisoners.

The First Way You May Help

Imagine your parent or spouse was arrested and imprisoned for his or her faith. What if they were the primary breadwinner? What if you could no longer pay rent, buy food for your family or afford to educate for your children? What if you had to pay fines to prevent the confiscation of your possessions?

The Voice of the Martyrs has always placed the highest priority on helping families of prisoners. In Hebrews 13:3 we are instructed to remember those in bonds as bound with them. And one of the most important aspects of remembering them is caring for their families. Salavat's prayer is so poignant:

"I am willing to go to prison for my faith. But please, God, take care of my family."

We can be the answer to that prayer!

We invite you to join in support of VOM's Families of Prisoners Fund. Your contribution will be used to pay fines and to provide education, housing, and other needs for families whose loved one has been imprisoned because of faith in Jesus Christ.

The Second Way You May Help - Send a Card

Esther's mother is a faithful Christian who was arrested in China for her work at a house church. She was sentenced to two years of hard labor in a "re-education through labor" camp. Her daughter, Esther, is now asking you to help by sending a postcard of encouragement to her mother. These pre-printed postcards will send a clear message to her mother and the Chinese authorities that her mother is not forgotten!

Send as many cards as you can. Share them with your Christian friends and family. Get your Sunday school class or entire church involved. The more cards that are sent, the more pressure we can put on Chinese officials to treat Christian prisoners, like Esther's mother, more humanely and to release them.

Each brochure, highlighting the arrest of Esther's mother and other Christians from Linfin, China, contains six prisoner postcards pre-addressed to Esther's mother. The first set of six cards is free, and you can purchase packs of 10 (60 cards) for only $2.50 each.
