Restricted Nation: Yemen

Picture 66 Today I wanted to take a moment to highlight one of the restricted nations where sharing the gospel is very difficult.

The following is from the VOM Restricted Nations Page:

Yemen is one of the poorest countries on the Arabian Peninsula. Around 90 percent of the men use drugs on a daily basis, limiting national advancement. Islam is the official religion, and Shariah law is the ultimate source of all legislation. It is illegal for non-Muslims to proselytize and for Muslims to convert to Christianity.

Category: Restricted Nation
Religion: Muslim 99.94%, Christian 0.05%
Ideology: Islam
Head of State: President Ali Abdallah Salih

Yemeni converts from Islam face the death penalty if discovered. Through radio broadcasts, tactful evangelism and other factors, perhaps 100 Yemenis have trusted Christ. Even though the Christian community is small, persecution still exists. Seven Yemeni believers were arrested in 2008 for missionary work. Another believer was imprisoned in his home for several months after his conversion.
