Northern Indiana School Board Votes to End Bible Class
Sadly, another school district has decided to take the bible out of school, saying that it is unconstitutional. Here's the story from the Associated Press.
NEW PARIS, Ind. — Officials at a Northern Indiana school district have decided to end an elementary school Bible class that triggered a federal lawsuit.
Fairfield Community Schools attorney Tim Shelly told the school board Thursday that the law is clear that religious instruction for students on school grounds during the school day “is not constitutionally permitted” and the district would lose in court.
The Elkhart Truth reports the board voted unanimously to end the class, triggering boos from a crowd of dozens who had spoken in support of the Bible class.
The suit filed by the American Civil Liberities Union of Indiana alleged a first-grader was left unsupervised in the hallway when his mother opted him out of the weekly 20-minute Bible class at New Paris Elementary School.
