Nine house-church leaders arrested in a police raid on January 6, 2007, in Henan province were released recently after 15 days of detention.

The Voice of the Martyrs has learned that the released Christians were not given any legal certificate of their arrest, detention or release. It is believed police deliberately did not provide Christians any legal evidence in order to prevent future lawsuits.

“VOM rejoices with the families of these faithful who serve the Lord in accordance with their conscience. The Chinese government says they ensure freedom of religion, but this case clearly shows the truth. We urge Chinese leaders in Beijing to release other Christians in their prisons immediately,” said Todd Nettleton of The Voice of Martyrs.

Sources within China report the number of Christians in China reached 130 million in 2006. It is believed persecution of believers will intensify ahead of the 2008 Olympics. VOM urges Americans to pray for Christians in China. Write to the Chinese government asking for the release of Christians.
