Special Prayer Proclamation:
National Weekend of Prayer and Reflection for Darfur, Sudan.
Earlier this month, Congress passed resolutions introduced by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Rep. Donald M. Payne (D-NJ), declaring July 15-17, this weekend, as a National
Weekend of Prayer and Reflection for Darfur, Sudan. The nearly unanimous, bi-partisan votes, calls upon Americans everywhere to pray for the suffering people of Darfur and for an end to the genocide taking place in Sudan.
For more than two years, Arab militias backed by the Sudanese government and military, have subjected Darfur villagers to systematic murder, starvation, disease, rape and pillage - on a massive scale. Women have been especially targeted for violent abuse.
Last year, Congress and President Bush officially declared the Darfur violence to be genocide. As many as 400,000 people have died in this one region, alone. More than 2 million people have been displaced from their homes.
Congress does not often issue calls to prayer. This prayer call is a serious matter, but it has not received enough media attention to mobilize the churches of America.
Please take the time this weekend to pray for the people of Darfure - and for an end to violence and genocide in this war-torn region. Forward this email to friends, and make sure the pastors and churches you know, are aware of the Congressional Resolution.
Please Join us in Prayer:
Father, move upon the nation of Sudan. Stop the murderous Janjaweed & end the Sudanese government's genocidal complicity (Psalm 94:5-10).
Grant Divine protection to the helpless people of Darfur & victims of violence elsewhere in Sudan, especially Christians who have been targeted for extermination because of their faith (Psalm 79:10-11).
