Hand Copied Bible Texts from China Given to George and Laura Bush

Our friends at China Aid shared a story from earlier this week that was covered in the DallasNews.com press about former President Bush receiving some hand written copies of the bible that were used in the underground church in China.

In the picture to your left, you see Bob Fu from China Aid, with George and Laura Bush, holding the bible pages.  Here's part of the story:

More than a decade ago, prisoners in a Chinese labor camp who were charged with illegal religious gathering began to copy by hand the text of a smuggled Bible. The copied Bibles were read by Christians in the camp for more than a year before being smuggled out of the camp. The books came to the United States and were given to the China Aid Association on behalf of the house church movement in China.

The association recently presented former President George W. Bush with some of the hand-copied pages for the George W. Bush Institute’s Freedom Collection. The Chinese prisoners’ stories, along with others who have led or participated in freedom movements around the world, will be part of the collection and displayed on the collection’s website, which is set to launch in early 2012.
