Gao Zhisheng Given Three Year Prison Term
Today the New York Times has highlighted some breaking news about Gao Zhesheng, citing China’s official news agency which announced that Gao will serve the next three years in prison because he violated his probation.
The Voice of the Martyrs has been on the forefront of highlighting the horrific abuse that Gao has undergone and we have also brought awareness to the fact that Gao has been missing for more than 20 months.
The New York Times article highlights a little bit about Gao's health...
Nicholas Bequelin, a researcher for the New York-based organization Human Rights Watch, said that Friday’s report showed that political concerns, not legal ones, were determining Mr. Gao’s fate. He also said that the new information in no way allayed concerns about Mr. Gao’s condition.
“The people who saw him more than 20 months ago described him as a ghost,” Mr. Bequelin said. “We have absolutely no details about his condition now.”
In other words, we really don't know much about his health, but we can presume it's not good. I would ask all of you to lift up Gao and his family in your daily prayers.
