Canada Demands Release of Asia Bibi

Screen shot 2011-12-15 at 3.42.18 PMA few days ago I was reading The Voice of the Martyrs monthly newsletter for December and I was both saddened and encouraged as I read about the life and testimony of Asia Bibi and her family.  As you may know, Asia has been in prison since 2009 and sentenced to death under Pakistan's blasphemy law.  I am encouraged by Asia because she has not recanted her faith or denied Christ during this time of trial.  I am saddened because she's being persecuted for the same beliefs that I have in Christ, and she's in jail for them.

I have to be honest and also say that I am saddened for her family and really sad that over the last few months, as we have asked for people to sign our petition A Call for Mercy to support Asia Bibi, that we only have 540,793 signatures of the one million we've been asking for.  It saddens me that we also only have 192, 023 of those signatures from the United States, where being a Christian is something we do without virtually any consequence.  There are over 150,000 signatures from Pakistan where it isn't safe to be a believer.  So, I feel sad that for some reason, American Christians haven't really stepped up and signed this petition which just asks for a unity in calling for mercy for Asia Bibi.

I am thankful for every person who has signed these petitions, but I think with all the media coverage about Asia Bibi, that we could've very easily had at least five million signatures in support of Asia Bibi by now, and I'm not sure how come we haven't.

Will you join me in continuing to pray for Asia and her family during this Christmas season?  Will you also pray with me that we would reach our goal of one million signatures in support of Asia?

I am happy to report that today, Mission Network News is highlighting a story about Asia and how now Canada is calling for the release of Asia.  Please click here to read this very important story.
