Bricks With Scriptures Rejected At High School Fundraiser
Recently I came across a story about a Palm Desert High school that had a fundraiser where they asked people to buy a brick so they could add a saying and have it be apart of the pathway on school grounds.
Two women purchased numerous bricks and wanted to include the following messages on the bricks. (See bricks)
1. Tell everyone about God's power. - Psalm 68:34
2. The old life is gone. A new one has begun - 2 Cor. 5:17
3. No one can serve two masters. Luke 17:13
4. ... Be kind to each other...forgive one another. - Eph. 5:32
5. If God is for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31
After the bricks were purchased, the school denied to install them because of the scripture verses even though nothing was clearly stated beforehand. Now there is a pending lawsuit, which I would ask for you all to pray for.
This story made me think of The Martyrs Monument which The Voice of the Martyrs has set up in order to remember our fallen brothers and sisters in Christ. Here's a little bit about the goal of the monument...
The Voice of the Martyrs is committed to keep alive the memory of those who stood for Christ to the death; a part of that commitment is represented in our desire to construct a permanent Martyrs Monument. The monument will contain the names and dates of some of the thousands of believers who have given their lives for the cause of the gospel, and will provide an opportunity for American Christians to experience the awesome challenge of visiting a martyr’s grave.
The Monument will also allow American Christians to declare that they too are willing to stand for Christ, just as the martyrs have, by making a contribution and signing the online pledge to stand strong for Christ. Those who contribute and sign the pledge will be permanently listed at The Martyrs Monument web site. Placing your name permanently is a powerful way to communicate to your friends and family that you have been blessed by the testimonies of this great cloud of witnesses
(Hebrews 12:1) and that you too are willing to stand to the death for your faith in Christ.
