"Sarah" is a Christian from China who has spent a total of six years in prison because of her work as a traveling evangelist. She said that suffering was just a part of her life, not even uncommon. She has been beaten and kicked, handcuffed, and shocked with electric batons. Chinese police grabbed her hair and used it to strike her head against the wall. One even put the shock baton into her mouth, which was then filled with blisters.
Sarah was losing hope, feeling that no one else knew where she was or knew of her suffering. Then she was reminded that one person did know: Jesus. Even in the midst of her suffering, she began to focus her mind on Jesus and on his suffering on the cross.
She knew that his hands and feet must have been very painful when they were nailed to the cross. She thought of Jesus teaching that His followers will have suffering on this earth, yet He also promised them peace in Him.
When it seemed that she had suffered enough, the police did not stop. Instead, they cornered her in the room and stripped her clothes off. Sarah says that the humiliation was even worse than the beatings.
Then she remembered that Christ was nailed naked on the cross, once again she was strengthened by remembering His suffering. She also knew of other Christians who had suffered even worse torture at the hands of the police.
"When you become a follower of Jesus Christ, you have to step to this path of death. But God is not a sleeping God."
