This is sad news because a convent is supposed to be a place where people can draw near to God, and God can draw near to them. However, considering the circumstances around this tragic story, I think it's best that this place is closed.

It looks like justice has been done for the nun we mentioned in an earlier post. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the monk and nuns have been indicted in the exorcism death that took place recently.
Here's the entirety of article:
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA -- A Romanian Orthodox monk has been indicted in the death of a nun in an apparent exorcism in which she was allegedly bound to a cross, a towel stuffed in her mouth, and left without food for three days.
Four nuns also were indicted Sunday in connection with the death of Maricica Irina Cornici, 23, of the Holy Trinity convent in northeast Romania. The prosecutor said Monday that authorities are awaiting the results of a second autopsy before deciding how to proceed.
A medical examiner's report based on an autopsy concluded that the nun died due to dehydration, exhaustion and lack of oxygen.

Father Daniel says the nun's death was justified, and that he doesn't understand why journalists are making such a fuss about this.

Last week I received an email from a friend of mine who has gone on a missions trip to Africa. I thought the email was so moving and tells of the struggles and triumphs of one Christian that you might be inspired by it as well. I've changed my friends name to protect him. This is from "Craig."
Where to start? So much has happen to me in the past week. FIrst of all
to give you some background info on Burkina Faso it is a 3rd world country
Class A. It is the second poorest country in the world and (missions organization) classifieds this country as the hardest journey for a misssionary. Anyways last Saturday our team got split up and each one of us went to different parts of the country. We stayed with a host family. This has been the hardest week of my life! I got picked up from the church on a MOTO (vespa) and got dropped off at my family house. It is a one bedroomm clay hut with a tin roof.

Last week I ended the week by sharing a devotional thought from one of my favorite books Extreme Devotion. Today I thought I'd do the same thing, so that as you go into the weekend, you can think about your faith and those who are suffering for the precious name of Jesus.

I was with my friend today when two police officers stopped us. They knocked my friend down and accused him of being a Christian. My friend did not try to defend himself. Even with a gun pointed directly at him, his face remained peaceful.

A news story that is currently running on the London Reuters website tells us that there is a new bill called The Racial and Religious Hatred Bill, which will give followers of all faiths equal protection from incitement to hatred.
The bill was designed, "... to address an anomaly in current law which gives Jews and Sikhs protection under the Public Order Act, but not Christians, Muslims or members of other religions." Not surprisingly Muslims have embraced this bill but civil liberties opponents are opposing it because they fear their speech will be hindered.
There is no mention of the reaction from Christians in the article, but regardless it is very interesting that we even have to have a law to basically tell one another we need to be nice to one another.

People who stand up for their convictions are my personal heroes because they are not people who decide to follow the broad path, but rather the narrow path that sets them apart from the average person. Bonhoeffer was one such man and today I found this great article about a new book about him at a website called Chico Enterprise Record.
