New Brotherhood Chair Calls for Sharia in Egypt
October 22, 2012
On one hand this is not shocking given what we know about the Muslim Brotherhood. On the other hand, this is very concerning to me and many others who are watching what has been happening in Egypt to Christians in Egypt. Please remember Coptic Christians in your prayers today and don't forget that we are part of the body of Christ, so when our family suffers, we suffer. Your prayers do matter and are needed. Please pray for safety for all believers worldwide as well.
The head of the Muslim Brotherhood's political party says his goal in Egypt is to "institute Islamic sharia law."
Saad al-Katatny was elected chairman of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party earlier this month.
According to the Jerusalem Post, he said his FJP victory is the step in achieving his goal.
"The Muslim Brotherhood established the FJP to represent the Brotherhood's political project, which, in the end, will be a wise government that will institute Islamic sharia law," Katatny said.
Earlier this month the Brotherhood's Supreme Guide, Muhammad Badie, called for the capture of Jerusalem.
"Jerusalem is Islamic … and nobody is entitled to make concessions" on the Holy City, Badie told supporters Oct. 11.
"The jihad for the recovery of Jerusalem is a duty for all Muslims" and will not be achieved "through negotiations or at the United Nations," he said.
Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, long leery of the Brotherhood, have called for the Obama administration to sever ties with the group.
In a joint statement they said Bodie's "rant confirms our long-held view that Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood is the most dangerous anti-Semitic organization in the world today."
