This situation is so frustrating. When the new Afghan government was created, how did the US let the provisional government enact a law calling for the death of converts from Islam? The reaction of Afghans to this brother's faith shows once again how evil a religion Islam really is. They think that "Allah" is insulted by this man's belief in Christ... Please.
This action flies in the face of what a constitutional democracy is supposed to be. There are supposed to be rights which protect the proper interest of citizens from those who wish to take them away. (such as freedom of religion, association, speech, etc.)I pray that this man will not be put to death and I have a gut feeling that he probably will not.
But not being put to death by the state does nothing to address the issue of others who may profess a faith other than Islam and apparently offers no substantive protection for this man from a "mob" who wish to "rip him limb from limb" (which is completely against any reasonable standard of fairness and protection under the law)
As a Canadian, where we have a heavy commitment in Afghanistan, it is essential that religious freedom be respected. We do not fight the Taliban and lose lives to support persection of Christian and other religious minorities. Please advise me as to what happened in this case since March 2006. We can place pressure on this side to ensure full respect for this and other cases. I await your info. Thanks
