Leader of Hopegivers International Arrested

March 16, 2006
Today in India, Hopegivers President, Samuel Thomas, was arrested.
According to VOM partner Hopegivers International , President Thomas was arrested by 12 men who were claiming to be police.
What was President Thomas arrested for? The article implies that he was arrested for protecting orphans.
We are asking for you to help us take action on behalf of President Thomas. (pictured)
1) Dr. Sajan George of the Global Council of Indian Christians based in
Bangalore called on the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi to take “appropriate action” to ensure the safety and well being of Dr. Thomas whose life has been threatened by Hindutva extremists.
2) Michael Glenn, Executive Director of Hopegivers International, called upon Christians around the world to pray and work for Dr. Thomas’ safety. He also said that letters of protest to Indian government leaders are very effective and that contributions are also needed for the emergency Legal Defense Fund.
3.) The threat to President Thomas' life is very real. For example... " Rajasthan newspapers have repeatedly quoted terrorist leaders offering a reward of $26,000 to paramilitary groups who will capture and behead either of the Christian leaders. “Saffron gangs” invaded the homes of family and friends of the Thomas’ on Monday, searching for the two Christian leaders.

Dear Stacy:
How can we help Dr. Thomas? Would it be best to contact our Senators and House people? I have written to one my Senators on the issue of Persecution, and have gotten a good reply back. Please let be know as soon as you can and let others know about it!!!!!!
In Christ's Name,

Hi Jacob,
The first thing you can do is pray, and I'm sure you already did didn't ya? :)
They also need donations for the defense fund, and you can donate online to that on the Hope site.
I'll try to find the contact information - I was looking earlier but didn't find it. But I will, because I'm on a mission!
And tell as many others as you can because the more people we get involved in writing and letting that government know, the better.

Stacy,
Thank you for posting such important information. I just spoke to Sammuel's assistant, Kelly Mott. She forwarded me some information I will e-mail you. She said Samuel is still alive but, she said they have threatened to kill him.
